An environmental transformation in the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Burns Unit. Bespoke interactive light boxes were designed for the walls and ceilings within eight acute treatment rooms at the unit. The light boxes contain layered hand drawn paper cuts and are complimented by bright illustrations throughout the unit depicting themes chosen by the children and staff. The lighting within the boxes is multi coloured and can be controlled on a smartphone.
Hand drawn laser cut artwork: The development of the light box designs was informed by Guided Visual Imagery techniques used by Clinical Psychologists to help children get through painful. traumatic procedures.
